That was my impression, too, depending on the King in question, and though I was not at ITEC and formed my conclusions elsewhere. I think it has to do with the Jupiter's tallish, narrow bell. The King's shorter, wider bell will sound more resonant, at least to the player. I don't know what happens out front.
I thought the Jupiter a great piston tuba for someone who prefers the sound and response of a rotary tuba but who wants pistons.
