The best way to play in tune is refine your ears not add valves...that's a cop out. Sit in an ensemble everyday with your F tuba and be forced to play low with others and it will get better, I guarantee it...I did it on a 4 valve alex F for a semester and my low range on my F is great.

I bought my alex F because I loved the way it sounded. Ever heard the floyd cooley recordings or Michael Lind? That's my ideal sound, so I bought an alex, what they play on. It does not sound like a euphonium in any way, I think it compliments my alex CC very nicely and I strive everyday to bridge the gap between them.
