Talking of how dark Euphonium players like to go with sound, how would folks describe the differences in American versus British sound concepts? I'm not trying to say one is better than the other but as an Englishman used to our 'traditional' players (think Childs Bros, Morgan Griffiths, Trevor Groom and NOT Steven Mead), I've always been surprised by the 'lightness' of sound American players go for - somewhat more like the Baritone sound in my head actually. American Tuba players on the other hand seem to really go for big sounds.

Please don't take this as an insult. It isn't; I'm just commenting on a difference in style.

Steven Mead has a much more 'American' sound than most of our best players and his sound is not liked by perhaps a majority of brass banders. Again this isn't negative; simply his sound is different and so doesn't appeal to all...

How do folks see this? Any more English opinions most welcome also!
