Roger, I agree with your conclusion but disagree with how you arrived there. Certainly, atonomical differences (lip size, shape of oral cavity etc.) would have some effect just as physical differences in horns have some effect. We compensate for a lot of it but some things just can't be changed which gives you that unique sound. Obviously, lung capacity is important but I don't think it is the only thing happening.
