Musical disorders

After reading the thread that Charlie posted describing a player who can't find the beat (curriously, in front of it), I couldn't help but wonder what some of you on the board might know about various types of musical disorders (if they could be characterized as such).

Many of you on the board are not only players, but educators and/or instructors. I searched the archives under "disorder", but only found a few threads on embrouchure related disorders. I tried a few other words in the search field, but I wasn't able to find much discussion on this topic.

Are there musical related disorders (in the sense that dislexia is a disorder)? I'm aware that some people are tone deaf. What else have you educators encountered? How did you assist the player?

Or, do some of you as players experience a difficulty in music that you might characterize as a disorder? (jokesters, please don't go there...as the topic can be sensitive)

Thanks for your insight.

Tony E
