In looking at the websites for the Marine Band and the Army Band, I was struck by the many differences in rules and procedures. For instance, the difference in maximum age (Marine Band 28, Army 34), the difference in audition procedure (Marine Band takes all comers who travel to DC at own expense, while the Army Band screens tapes, then provides paid travel to DC), paying off student loans (Army yes, Marines no?).
Which begs the question of "why?" Why so different?
