Gotta agree with Dave on this one. The only people who usually get enjoyment out of it are the tuba players themselves. The ensemble blend almost always suffers and the scoring gets thrown out of whack.

I'ld rather hear someone take what is on the page and make great music out of it, then have them entertain themselves with octave acrobatics.

There are places where it sometimes works well, but it is like any other spice. Overuse and it ruins the dish.
