Now you're scaring me, Joe. This is a 20-year-old Alex F, so the chances of finding a guard that matches this one don't seem very high. I know Alexander is making tubas again, but I would be pretty surprised if the guards they are now producing would fit on my old horn (every Alex F I have seen has had small, but quite noticeable, differences in where the tubes met, were braced, etc.).
It sounds more and more like I need to start looking at these small cracks as character marks.
