Actually, I'm not too sure that statement is true. I know that at least a couple of companies make true tenor tubas, the ones I know of being Alexander and Miraphone. The Miraphone "Kaiser Bariton" can be had in either C or Bb (it's listed on their website) and its dimensions are discernably larger than most "euphoniums" I know of. A couple of Alexander tenor tubas have been floating around the states for a while, I believe Matt Good in Dallas has one such instrument. I've never had an opportunity to play one of these instruments myself but my understanding from talking to those who have is that especially the bell, first, and second branches are MUCH larger than is common for euphonium or baritone. Perhaps someone (Miraphone) can bring one to ITEC and we can see for ourselves?
