I'm probably about to stir up a hornet's nest, but thought I'd log on my opinion. I haven't heard an over-the-shoulder tuba or bugle of any kind that can compete, sound-wise, with a good, large American-made sousaphone. The Conn 20K is the only one still made, and though some may consider them to be pricey, no other marching bass on the planet will take more abuse and keep on putting out massive quantities of quality sound. And, properly adjusted and properly played, their intonation is as good as many concert tubas. By the way, anyone who knows the location of an old Conn 'jumbo' or 'monster' BBb sousaphone, I'm looking for one.
Thanks,
