Actually Ray, I have heard of this type of surgery. This is the sort of thing that I have had in the back of my mind for some time and I have never put two and two together. I believe I had a teacher that told me that the soft palete (sp) in the throat (you know, the one singers *always* ramble on about. Just ask any vocalist you know about placement of the soft palete when they sing). Anyway, the theory is, and if this is common knowledge then let me in on it, is the stronger your SP is, the better chance one has a higher range on brass instruments. It doesn't always have to do with your chops, but air affects how strong the notes are.

Am I way off base, and is there anyone who can clarify? I believe Arnold Jacobs talked about this--it would make sense--he's like a MD.. Farah
