I am having auditions for the same thing in a few weeks, and i was wondering about a particular thing that my private teacher wanted me to do, but my band director frowned upon it. My teacher from Chicago, to Tennessee (where this is taking place). The playing styles up north, and down here are obviously different. He wanted me to take a section of the prepared piece down an octave where it was written (which we are well-known to do). It sounded really cool, and he thought it would demonstrate my low-range well. When I performed for my director, he said that it would hurt my scores really bad if i did that. I was just wondering what you would have thought if someone that you judged in the audition would have done the same thing. Granted that they did it well. Thanks for the comments!
