Todd, does anyone make a helicon with detachable bell? I've played 'em for alot of years and never have seen or heard of a detachable bell model. I have a Cervany in my horn stable and I agree it plays nicely...for a helicon. I've found you sacrifice intonation and projection with the helicon vs sousa, but the comfort factor makes it all worthwhile. Allan Jaffee (I promise I won't mention him again, everybody...) plays all the Perservation Hall Jazz Band cuts with an old Conn helicon and he gets a great sound out of the old girl. Of course, A.J. had the lung power of a Bill Bell, so that helps.
