Okay, so my quintet is playing this piece right now...and I just got a recording of it. The first movement, Moderato, is now going up for some debate. We've been taking it at a seemingly "moderate" tempo, although this recording suggests a more "brisk" tempo. It's the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, if anyone is familiar with that specific performance. We were very much right with them on every other tempo...but they were REALLY cookin' in the first movement. I really do think that the first movement should be felt in 2...but exactly how fast? Sorry I don't have any specific metronome markings to give you, but please let me konw what you think.
