I watched a new-looking Hirsbrunner euphonium go without any bids (AT) opening bid c. $1600 because it was not "compensating".
Yep, 4 pistons (regular 3+1 configuration), beautiful, silver plated, snazzy case...
Is it really worth $4000 or more (considering the upper $5K price of a new "compensating" Hirsbrunner euphonium) to euphonium players to be able to play
- low Eb
- low Db
- low C
- low B
"sort-of" in tune? ...because that is the only real difference between a "compensating" and a "non-compensating" 3+1 euphonium...
...and one of those Yamaha-style 4th slide insert gadgets (available: c. $500) would accomplish the same thing...
