I've tried them for myself, and they do make a difference. I could notice it. My wife noticed it. The sound had more power, more projection, and more punch.

I'm not sure the sound was more beautiful, and I haven't yet noticed that it makes the horn easier or more difficult to play. I'm also not sure that it will appear in, say, spectral analysis, because it seems to affect dynamic more than color.

But the notion that they have no effect is, I'm now persuaded, wrong.

I won't be sending them back.

The York Master is still a better-sounding tuba, with much more depth and warmth to the sound. The more resonant the room, the more those qualities shine. But the Monsterweighted Miraphone will do well in outdoor concerts when I need to punch through high noise levels.
