Less than a week before a big audition I am in my 3rd day of a painful cold sore. Doctors have prescribed the topical ointment acyclovir and I have been applying it every 2 hrs or so. I'm also taking a mineral supplement L-Lysine at 3000 mg a day. I expected to wake up this morning and it be better but seems to be the same. I can endure about a 30 minute warmup but am trying to stay off the horn.

At the risk of turning ya'lls stomach, it hasn't developed into a significant blister yet and thus has yet to burst and cause a sore. It's still a very painful pea-sized lump located in the bottom left lip just as the meaty part of the lip meets the exterior.

Any help that can be given would be greatly appreciated. I can play through a little pain but the swelling does not allow my lips to properly vibrate. Also, if anyone has any short-term suggestions as to something I can do the day of, that would be appreciated.

I'm looking at 4 months of severe preparation about to go for naught.

I am desperate!
