A grab-bag of questions (about bore).

How precisely is bore measured?

Is it (bore) essentially defined by the width at the entrance/i> to the valve set?

What is more important to sound (generally) the bore itself OR the increase thru the valve casing (i.e. where you see, say, a 1st valve bore measurement, and then a 5th valve bore measurement). Is this a taper, of (more likely) a case of the fifth valve being a larger bore due to its use predominantly in the low register?

I know that the general flare (widening) of the tubing has an profound effect on sound characteristics, and indeed 'defines' the sound of the tuba. So, why don't manufacturers list many bore sizes, or invent some new 'way' of describing the taper itself somehow?

I hope these musings have seemed at least somewhat coherent.
