One of my friends teaches at a middle school where the music program, as is often the case these days, relies on the kindness of the community for their instruments. She has a Conn 14J which does not seem to suit any of the current crop of students. I wonder if any music educators or others would care to comment on their experience with small tubas in a school situation. What models seem to both fit the size constraints and stand up to this environment? Is a 3 valve horn a good choice at this level? What other factors are important in choosing instruments for this age student? I'm trying to remember what it was like to have a 6/4 tuba assigned to you when you weighed 70lbs. Thanks, NWD
