In playing tubas I have wondered when I played my yamaha 621 it was .629 and a 3/4 horn and I was not pleased with the sound, I later got a St pete and the.840 4/4 horn felt smooth and played with little ressistance. On a VMI 3301, which is a listed as a 4/4 alost a 5/4 horn on the brass wind with a .748-.808 bore the sound is completely different from the large st pete not quite as dark or rich, maybe I am not puting enough air through, but I also played on a Musica 2301 CC .750 bore 3/4 which made a beautiful rich tone and resonated nicely with a large sound,... what makes the tuba bigger the ?/4 designation or the bore size??
