As you can tell, the Brass Band world in Chicago is up for grabs. Ten years ago the Illinois Brass Band formed, won a bunch of NABBA Championships, next came the Prairie Brass Band - have been doing a number of concerts in the area and won the second division at NABBA. Now the Chicago Brass Band.

Who are they? The conductor is the former conductor of the Illinois Brass Band, that was until last summer when his idea of compensation was more than the band could afford (another subject). NABBA has a three year rule, any band that wins three years in a row must sit out a year. So, here is a town that can barely support one Brass Band with three!

The CBB has taken a few members from IBB and PBB and, on the surface has only one goal - NABBA. I played IBB and they would start practicing competition music in December for a mid-April competition. The week after the competition was traditionally the worse rehearsal of the year. One year we recorded the competion music and the tape was so bad it had to be trashed!

There are those who are only into the competition thang which, in my opinion, music and sex are non-competitive sports.

What is going to happen? Stay tuned.
