I have battled with Focal Dystonia for about 8 years and just in the past year have recovered. Actually recovered is not quite the right word, I have trained new muscles. I think mine got started with the Sousaphone on a parade field. Just as Joe's "Big tuba, big hall" concept, blowing the sousaphone on a field creates the same thing. Also using a huge mortar for a mouthpiece didn't help.

I also think lip surface has alot to do with it. I don't have big, fat lips. I think, not a medical opinion here, that the thinner sufaces don't take the strain as well as a meatier face. Just a thought.

To agree with Joe, I think the B-52 ethic is hurting us. I went to smaller equipment and am more efficient and can play again. It was a long road, but tit can be done.
