Building your own flight case

The thread down below that discusses flight risks and preparation for a tuba got me thinking here. Since so many tuba cases are outrageously expensive, I have often thought that it would be interesting to see if I could build a heavy duty tuba case suited for flight.

I would use 3/4 plywood and make two boxes lined with high quality foam and make it so that the tuba inside the gig bag would fit in it. Every single piece of hardware would be high quality and heavy duty. Of course, the case would have wheels and a pull handle that would either be the retractable type or detachable and kept inside the case when not in use.
