Hmmm... I think you need to go to a few more NASCAR races without your earplugs. I don't know where you've been, but I enjoy playing in tuba/euph qurtets and ensembles for the challenge of the music and the chance to make some music without 1) playing a bunch o whole notes and counting rests or 2) playing pieces like Melody Shop, Festival Variations, Festive Overture, and Pinapple Poll where all the euph parts are "backed up" by the woodwinds and trumpets just in case the euph players SUCK.
I played in a fine tuba quartet in college, and the feedback we got from NON tuba players was that we were one of the most popular groups in the university. Yawn??? I think not.
T.U.B.A. has helped the tuba and euph gain respect throughout the world, thanks in no small part to Harvey Phillips and Dan Parantoni. You could choose not to listen, so go listen to your latest Boyz to Men CD you paid $20 for from your CD club.
