As a father of a high school tuba player in Virginia and someone when I was in HS tried out for all state in VA, it is interesting/confusing when I see posts from other states about their "All-State" tryouts. In Virginia, we have District Band and Orchestra auduions first (scales, chormatic, prepared piece and sight reading.) For the tubas, the top 2 players from each district (16 Districts), get invited to audition for "All-Virginia" Band and Orchestra. This is scales (major and chromatic) and 2 sight reading pieces. Is this the way it happens in other states? Just would like to know.
