I personally think that the best orchestral music that's been produced in the past 25 years has been movie soundtracks. Let's face it, John Williams is the best known composer of our day, and he has produced some brilliant works and is an excellent conductor. Jerry Goldsmith is my favorite, and he has produced some of the best works ever, including the soundtracks to "Alien" (an absolute gem if you can find it, but butchered by the studio when added to the film), "Star Trek: The Movie" (superb tuba parts), "The Sand Pebbles", "The Omen III", and on and on and on. My personal favorite, though is Danny Elfman's volcanic soundtrack to "Batman"; I've never heard a track that fit the action of the movie better or that was used to better advantage by the sound mixers. The soundtrack became an essential character in the movie, every bit as important as the actors.
