I have the opportunity to sit in with one of the better community bands. They only have one tuba for a large band, so I may have a chance for membership. However...
I have been warned by the another muscian in the band that the incummbent tuba player is difficult to work with. He is a better than average payer, but seems to be very jealous of his position. He is described as being very vocal, direct and even rude. The band has had difficulty in the past trying to keep another tuba player who can sit beside this guy for any length of time.
I am very interested in joining this band because they are one of the better quality groups in the city. But I play because I enjoy playing. I get enough grief in my day to day work without having to have even more in a band enviroment.
So, anybody have any suggestions based on a similar experience?
